Spring is the season of the wood element!

Welcome to our Spring season 5 Element Thai Massage Workshop. These seasonal workshops introduce the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s 5 Element Theory, integrated into the physical practice of Thai massage, to guide us with living in harmony with nature’s rhythms.

This workshop will help us welcome the energy of Spring, represented by the Wood element, exemplifying the energy of growth, change and pushing through. If we have followed nature's way and taken a winter rest, we too emerge into spring with clear vision and a sense of purpose. This is the time to plant seeds, to look ahead and make new plans, and also to work through any blockages so that we can access our full potential energy this season.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine's 5 Element Theory, the Wood element manifests in the body as the liver and the gall bladder. The liver function is considered to be the grand architect for our vision of the future, the center of strategic planning. The Gall Bladder is thought to be the center of our ability to make decisions and judge wisely. From the functions of the liver and the gall bladder, we can plan and choose – we combine new future possibilities with the wisdom of the past and, as a result, are able to see the clear and appropriate course to take.

If our wood element is out of balance, we may feel stunted in our growth and as a result feel anger, frustration and stress. Like wood, anger can make us hard and unbendable - like the tree that snaps in a strong wind instead of swaying. We must remain flexible and assertive, with our eyes on the important people and projects in our life.

Join us for your Spring Cleaning as we massage the liver and gall bladder meridians to remove stagnation and support physical and emotional flexibility. Our sequences will be in supine and sidelying positions, addressing many common “problem areas” in the outer lines of the hips, legs and shoulders. This workshop will address the full body and leave you feeling grounded and springy.
